Issues: Guns

Gov. Perry believes in freedom, personal responsibility, and the God-given right to defend yourself and your family. He has never lost faith in our Founding Fathers' wisdom to include the Second Amendment to the Constitution among the Bill of Rights. During his time in office, Gov. Perry protected Texans from attempts by the federal government to abridge the right to bear arms, and rejected the false premise that gun control can prevent violence.

* When other states were considering tightening their regulation of firearm manufacturers, Gov. Perry actively recruited these companies, bringing three to Texas.
* Gov. Perry signed "Castle Doctrine" legislation giving Texans stronger legal protection in the event they have to use deadly force to protect themselves or their families in their homes, cars and workplaces.
* Gov. Perry also signed measures protecting gun ranges, and firearm manufacturers and distributors against frivolous law suits.
* Signed multiple pieces of legislation improving access to concealed handgun licenses, including for veterans and peace officers.
* Signed legislation creating a school marshal position to help ensure students and teachers are safe in the classroom.
